Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to brush up on previous skills, this is the drawing class for you. Working in a variety of media, we will cover all of the basics: line, shape, value, proportion, composition, perspective and markmaking. Particular focus is placed on observational skills, learning how to translate the 3-dimensional world onto a 2-dimensional surface. A materials list will be provided after registration.

In this class you will learn what colors pair well next to each other and how to layer colors to achieve depth. No Prior experience is necessary; Shirley welcomes beginners with open arms. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or picking up a brush for the first time you’ll find this to be a fun and engaging class. Canvas and paints are supplied.

Have you taken the Introduction to Zentangle class and are wondering where to go next? In this class, we’ll play with different tangles, different materials and different approaches using the base of your initial Zentangle experience. All supplies needed will be provided.

Learn how to transfer hand-drawn imagery onto clay using monoprinting techniques with slip and underglaze. Explore layering, line work, and expressive surface design. Bring leather-hard pots if you’d like, or use provided slabs. All materials included; $20 materials fee payable to the instructor. No experience necessary.

This all-levels class integrates pen and ink techniques with watercolor. Students will learn principles of illustration different kinds of botanicals, and create a composition combining a rainbow array of the subjects of their choosing. At the end of the day, students will have gained techniques for painting and drawing in their own unique style. Let’s have fun making two stamped projects together! Project One will use embossing to make a Valentine card that you can customize for the intended recipient. Project Two will be a match box: it’s the perfect packaging for a treat or sweet note! Precut kits and envelopes are provided. Participants need a pair of scissors and colored pencils or markers.
