In this 2 day class, you'll learn everything you need to know to get started with watercolor painting. We will have an in-depth conversation about paper and pads, paint, palettes, and brushes. After the materials lecture, we'll jump right in and make a color chart, practice mixing paint and our brush strokes. After a quick review on the second day, you'll have the opportunity to paint a custom illustration created by Catherine and printed on watercolor paper. You'll leave this short, but sweet class with enough experience and knowledge to know if investing in the materials to paint with watercolor is something you are interested in doing. February 17th will be a special all day session. We will meet from 2:30 to 5, take a half hour break and finish up between 5:30 to 7:30. 

Welcome in the holiday season with colorful window stars. Made from folded kite paper, these magical decorations are the perfect thing to illuminate your home or give away as gifts. Students will learn basic paper-folding techniques to make window stars ranging from beginner to advanced. Join us for this simple yet stunning craft! All materials included. Classes cover sewing basics like the tools you’ll need to get started, threading a needle, sewing by hand, and how to purchase and use a machine as well as how to choose and use a sewing pattern to put together a wardrobe of basic clothing pieces. We’ll make a drawstring bag in class, and a simple piece of clothing. There is a $45 tools and materials fee payable to the instructor on the first night of class (includes fabric and pattern for your bag but not for the clothing piece). *No Class: 11/27.

Ottoman Edition! This hands-on workshop introduces students to some of the foundational skills of upholstery. Over the course of three classes, students will learn to transform a plain, wooden frame into a beautiful, custom ottoman. Through guided instruction, students will become familiar with a variety of upholstery tools and techniques. Students will also learn how to measure and cut cushioning materials, and properly assemble a finished ottoman. If you're looking to gain a new skill, this course provides a brief introduction to the art of upholstery. Course Highlights: + Learn how to transform a plain, wooden frame into usable furniture. + Hands-on practice with a variety of upholstery tools: pneumatic staple gun, rubber and wooden mallets, staple remover, pliers, and more. + Guidance on fabric selection, estimating, and manipulation. + Basic padding, assembly, and finishing. + Safety procedures and proper tool usage. Materials: Students will need to provide their own fabric. All other materials, including the ottoman frame, will be provided. Explore your creativity through layering paper, paint, trimmings and other found objects in this hands-on collage class. Learn composition, texture, and basic mixed media techniques to create a unique, Christmas tree-themed art canvas to keep or to give as a gift. All skill levels welcome and all materials provided! *Registration deadline is 11/7.

In this class, we will follow step by step instructions to create a multi-layered card. We will use one stamp several times to paper piece a stunning image. We will also make a gift card holder to prepare for the holidays. Precut kits and envelopes are provided. Participants need a pair of scissors and colored pencils or markers.

In this class, we will follow step by step instructions to create a unique explosion box! When the top is removed, the inside pops open and reveals pockets to tuck in a note or gift card, and colorful decorations. We will also make a mini gable box perfect for that small gift. Learn to draw what you see. If you can write you can draw! It is more a matter of learning to see and recognize shapes and proportions. We will spend three weeks rapidly improving our drawing and observation skills through a series of exercises and projects. In order to get the greatest benefit from the class, it is advised that you complete the short daily drawing challenge. Materials list will be provided by the instructor.

In this class we will be painting a wooded scene with beautiful white birch trees. The cool air and colorful leaves will be sure to get you in the mood for this upcoming fall season. No Prior experience is necessary; Shirley welcomes beginners with open arms. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or picking up a brush for the first time you’ll find this to be a fun and engaging class. Canvas and paints are supplied.

Learn how to transfer hand-drawn imagery onto clay using monoprinting techniques with slip and underglaze. Explore layering, line work, and expressive surface design.
