The Learning Center is open to all adults in need of academic instruction and guidance. Hours vary by day, and we will try to meet you on your schedule. Our staff provides individualized instruction in the areas of:
- High School Equivalency
- HiSET Prep
- Accuplacer Prep
- Math and ELA instruction to prepare you for college-level coursework
- General reading, writing, and math tutoring for anyone pursuing college or career education
College Transitions and Workforce
- Want to go to college?
- Want to change careers?
- Looking to earn a certificate for a new career?
- Need to brush up on your math and English skills?
- Need to pass the Accuplacer tests?
- Simply need help deciding where and how to advance?
1:1 tutoring services are available as well as group classes. Call for more details.
Maine College and Career Access (MCCA) is a comprehensive academic and advising program leading to enrollment in post-high school education or training that results in a credential of value and high-quality employment. Participants in MCCA programming will acquire the skills and knowledge to pursue their learning and employment goals.
MCCA is offered through local adult education programs and provides high-quality, cost-effective and accessible pathways to success. Adults who are studying to earn high school degrees receive help in transitioning to college, and adults who have high school degrees receive preparatory support for college. Counseling, mentoring and support services are provided to enable these adults to successfully transition to college and earn degrees.
Multilingual Language Learners
English Language Classes For Multi-Language Learners (MLL)
MLL students will practice speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills with a professional English language teacher. Courses offered range from basic through advanced, with placement based on individual learning needs.
ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEST PREP – TOEFL
This class will help you prepare for the TOEFL IBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language: Internet Based Test), used as a measure of college readiness.
CIVICS LITERACY FOR US CITIZENSHIP
Build the literacy skills needed and knowledge required to become a US citizen in this class. Material is designed to understand the United States democratic system and teachers will assist in practicing the civics test for citizenship.
Enrichment
Adult Education Enrichment courses offer a unique opportunity to explore new interests, develop practical skills, and reignite a passion for lifelong learning—all in a low-pressure, supportive environment. Whether you’re looking to pick up a new language, dive into creative writing, learn how to cook international cuisine, or understand basic digital tools, enrichment classes allow you to grow both personally and intellectually. You might want to take one to meet new people, boost your confidence, enhance your career skills, or simply carve out time for something that brings you joy. These courses are about more than just learning—they’re about rediscovering curiosity and expanding your world.
