RSU 16 ADULT EDUCATION HONORS GRADUATES 

 MECHANIC FALLS – Twelve RSU 16 Adult Education students were honored at a cap and gown graduation ceremony on Friday, June 5, 2026 for meeting High School completion goals. Over 70 friends, family and staff gathered in the Elm Street School gymnasium, as seven of the graduates marched to “Pomp and Circumstance.”   

Director, Shelli Pride, opened with remarks on the topic, “Life is full of choices and challenges. Remember to take risks, embrace the unknown, find your passion and never lose sight of the potential that lies within you.” Teacher, Susan Lasselle, shared “Thoughts from the classroom” about each of the graduates and said it was a privilege to have been able to work with them to complete their high school education.  

Ian Wesley Muncey was selected by staff to receive the Perseverance Award for his perseverance and growth this year. RSU 16 Adult Education Teacher, Susan Lasselle presented this award.  

Grace Olivia Daigneault was selected by staff to receive the Overcoming Obstacles Award for her perseverance and growth this year. RSU 16 Adult Education Teacher, Susan Lasselle presented this award.

Edmund Charles Binns and Cassidy Rose Lessard were selected by staff to receive the RSU 16 Adult Education Scholarship in recognition of their academic excellence, perseverance, and personal growth. Shelli Pride, Director of RSU 16 Adult Education, presented the awards. Each $300 scholarship may be used to help cover educational and related expenses, including books, technical devices, housing, or other relevant costs. 

As part of a longstanding tradition, each graduate took the podium during the ‘flower ceremony’ to personally thank family, friends and staff for supporting them in their educational journey by presenting them with a red rose following a short speech. Diplomas were then awarded by Susan Lasselle as photos were taken by Administrative Assistant, Jerilyn Cook. 

Shelli closed with a charge to graduates to “Go forth with courage and determination in your souls to put yourselves out there and try new things, but above all, go forth with kindness in your hearts.”
