Our Adult Education Program is committed to helping adult learners achieve their personal, academic, and career goals through a wide range of high-quality educational opportunities. Whether you’re completing your high school credential, preparing for college, upgrading job skills, or building digital confidence, we provide the support and resources you need to succeed.

Program Offerings

Adult Basic Education (ABE)
Foundational reading, writing, math, and digital literacy instruction to strengthen essential skills for work, daily life, or continued education.

HiSET Preparation (High School Equivalency Test)
Comprehensive classes that prepare students for the HiSET exam, leading to a recognized high school equivalency diploma.

Adult High School Diploma
Individualized pathways for students who want a traditional high school diploma. We honor previously earned credits and support steady progress toward graduation.

College Transitions
Courses designed to bridge the gap between high school and higher education. Students build academic skills, explore career options, and receive guidance through the college enrollment process.

Part-time Math and Science Instructor to assist adult learners in Math and Science Skills.  The instructor position will provide classes and tutoring at locations in Washington County or virtually. This position is a countywide position with some travel. Mileage is provided at the State rate. State certification is required or ability to be certified.  If a high school certificate in math and science is not held, Adult Education Instructors can also be certified with a minimum of 22 hours in a content area.  Training in the necessary digital literacy skills will be given if the candidate needs.

Schedule is set by teacher and approved by director.  Mileage is paid.

Qualified candidates must have the following primary responsibilities:

  • Schedule classes in collaboration with WCACE staff
  • Ability to be flexible with time and travel
  • Be dependable and prompt
  • Be able to relate to a variety of people
  • Good communication skills with students, other instructors, staff and director
  • Must have a valid Maine Drivers’ License and dependable vehicle

General Expectations:

  • Maintain a courteous and professional manner
  • Dress appropriately according to company policy
  • Represent themselves and the company appropriately in public
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Being a team player
