Are you a newish (or out of practice) knitter and ready to tackle your first sweater? Using my fool-proof classic pullover sweater pattern, you will learn basic sweater construction skills such as tweaking a pattern to achieve your perfect fit, knitting from the top-down, creating raglan sleeves, and final finishing techniques. Learn in a communal, stress-free and satisfying way! Some very basic knitting experience is required. Bring a sweater that fits you well to the first class. Experience the Joy of Watercolor while learning to paint landscape elements. This class is designed for intermediate watercolorists. While you do not need to be an advanced student, you should be familiar with your supplies, art terms and comfortable painting with professional watercolor materials. The course accommodates various skill levels while maintaining a focus on fundamental techniques. The first hour of class focuses on instruction and exercises related to that week's topic. Each session features the work of a contemporary or historical watercolorist. In the second hour, students work on individual projects with personalized guidance. You may choose to complete a quick project centered on the day's topic or continue working on a longer-term piece. This class requires some prior watercolor experience—you should know the basics, though you don't need to be beyond beginner level. Materials list will be provided by the instructor.

This all-levels class will explore techniques for illustrative ink drawing with ‘dip pens’, and layering and mixing vibrant and organic hues with watercolor. Students will leave with their own unique composition of a bouquet - which could make a wonderful handmade holiday gift. Ed Higgins’ popular charcoal class is back and better than ever, with new prizes awarded at the end of each class for the dirtiest hands! Charcoal is a fluid, forgiving, and beautiful medium, and should be part of every artist’s repertoire. We’ll warm up with speed sketching and then work on individual projects where the subject matter is up to you. The minimum materials list for this class is vine charcoal, compressed charcoal, charcoal pencils, and a large pad of newsprint. Architectural Scenes in Ink and Watercolor

A good follow up to the Ink for Astronauts class. We’ll study some traditional architectural rendering techniques from the book “Rendering in Pen and Ink” (Guptil, 60th edition), and occasionally add some watercolor washes. We’ll use speed sketching to warm up, and tackle any lingering perspective problems. This indoor class will be good prep for any urban sketching excursions you may plan featuring street scenes and buildings. The minimum materials list for this class is a sketchbook and pencils, erasers, a set of artist grade watercolors and brushes, drawing pens with waterproof ink and/or dip pens and bottled ink. Colorful & Expressive Pastel Sketching

Designed for beginners but open to all levels, we will use our pastels in a loose, expressive way to create several quick drawings, with the goal of finding new approaches to a very traditional medium. Using expressive mark-making and bold color choices, we will work from a selection of reference photos from our beautiful state of Maine. An array of mats will be provided, with the goal of everyone leaving with something matted that they would consider worthy of display! *Registration is required by Nov 19th.

In this workshop you will use recycled wool scraps and fairy lights to create a stunning 18” holiday tabletop tree in the festive colors of your choice. Using pieces of old sweaters and other felted remnants, you will combine gorgeous colors and rich textures to create an heirloom quality display that can be enjoyed for years to come. Tree materials are included – bring a glue gun, lots of glue sticks, and a 6’ extension cord.
