Join Catherine for this 1 night class to learn new ways to incorporate mixed media techniques in your work. Create depth, texture and interest with gouache, fluid acrylic, colored pencils, watercolor pencils, dual tipped markers and posca pens (and more). Class will start with a refresher on color and techniques covered in previous levels and then transition to discuss new ways to think about layers while introducing various mixed media supplies. We will spend the rest of class playing with a variety of materials to incorporate new and old techniques to complete a fun and uplifting illustration. Materials fee: $20.

Discover the art of junk journaling in this fun, hands-on class! In this class, you'll learn how to turn everyday materials—like old book pages, scrap paper, fabric bits, and ephemera—into a one-of-a-kind vintage themed journal full of personality and charm. We’ll cover basic binding, layout, and creative embellishing techniques. All materials provided. *Registration deadline is 10/22.

Classes cover sewing basics like the tools you’ll need to get started, threading a needle, sewing by hand, and how to purchase and use a machine as well as how to choose and use a sewing pattern to put together a wardrobe of basic clothing pieces. We’ll make a drawstring bag in class, and a simple piece of clothing. There is a $45 tools and materials fee payable to the instructor on the first night of class (includes fabric and pattern for your bag but not for the clothing piece). *No Class: 11/27.

Dining Chair Edition! This hands-on workshop introduces students to the foundational skills of upholstery. Over the course of six classes, students will learn to transform 4-6 outdated dining chairs into beautiful, functional pieces. Through guided instruction, students will become familiar with a variety of upholstery tools and techniques. Students will also learn how to select fabrics, measure and cut cushioning materials, and properly assemble a finished seat. Whether you're looking to refresh your dining room or gain a new skill, this course provides the perfect introduction to the art of upholstery. Course Highlights: + Learn how to reupholster dining chair seats using modern and traditional techniques. + Hands-on practice with a variety of upholstery tools: pneumatic staple gun, wooden mallet, staple remover, and pliers. + Guidance on fabric selection, estimating, and manipulation. + Basic seat assembly, padding, and finishing. + Safety procedures and proper tool usage. Through guided instruction, students will become familiar with a variety of upholstery tools and techniques. Students will also learn how to measure and cut cushioning materials, and properly assemble a finished ottoman. If you're looking to gain a new skill, this course provides a brief introduction to the art of upholstery. Course Highlights: + Learn how to transform a plain, wooden frame into usable furniture. + Hands-on practice with a variety of upholstery tools: pneumatic staple gun, rubber and wooden mallets, staple remover, pliers, and more. + Guidance on fabric selection, estimating, and manipulation. + Basic padding, assembly, and finishing. + Safety procedures and proper tool usage. Materials: Students will need to provide their own fabric. All other materials, including the ottoman frame, will be provided. This all-levels class integrates pen and ink techniques with watercolor. Students will learn principles of illustration flora and fauna, focusing on one specimen each week. Each week will focus on a new subject, such as a wildflower or fish, with subjects gradually increasing in complexity. At the end of the course, students will have gained techniques for painting and drawing in their own unique style. Students can either buy themselves the required materials - the materials list is linked here - or they can buy material kits from the Mix, an art store in Brunswick (here is a link to a student-grade kit, and here is a link to an artist-grade kit).  *No Class: 11/27.

Explore your creativity through layering paper, paint, trimmings and other found objects in this hands-on collage class. Learn composition, texture, and basic mixed media techniques to create a unique, Christmas tree-themed art canvas to keep or to give as a gift. In this class, we will follow step by step instructions to create a multi-layered card. We will use one stamp several times to paper piece a stunning image. We will also make a gift card holder to prepare for the holidays. Precut kits and envelopes are provided. Participants need a pair of scissors and colored pencils or markers.
