Learn the vital art of mending: that is, essentially, darning, hemming and patching. We'll study cross-hatch hole-mending, then employ a few simple stitches to create a functional cloth patch. Bring your holy garments! An assortment of yarns and fabrics will be provided for you to use. (If you will need some very unique fabric or thread, then you should bring it.) We will repair as much as we can. Price includes all required tools and materials.

Learn how to sharpen knives, axes, pruners, scissors, and other blade tools. Bring your own dull tools that need to be touched up, or come to practice sharpening on some of our tools and stones. We'll cover the basic theory behind sharpening edge tools, and practice using a variety of sharpening stones. Whetstones will also be available for purchase. *Program includes all required tools and materials.

Gain a comprehensive overview of woodcarving knives and learn how to use them. Practice using metal and stone knives to carve some basic eating implements from wood: fine chopsticks and/or a jam spreader. Next, try to make a spinning top! We’ll cover safety, techniques, good form, and various basic carving projects. *Program includes all required tools and materials.

Based on a historic binding, my Modern Coptic was designed for todays materials. To create this complex book, we will learn to back fabrics, cover book boards, cut down text blocks, shape concertinas, punch sewing stations, sew the unique linked stitched pattern & glue the finishing touches. Tools & materials will be provided. A materials fee of $20 payable to the instructor is due on the first night.

Attention rainbow lovers! Design and string your own crystal suncatchers using glass beads, metal charms and faceted glass. All materials provided. Materials included are: 3 faceted crystals, and enough beads, wire, charms and hooks to create three, foot long suncatchers.

We will explore three variations of the accordion artist book, the Simple, Window & Pamphlet Accordions. These books include three different text & cover techniques. We will also touch on the basics of book binding vocabulary & where the accordion book structures came from historically. Tools & materials provided. Please bring a photo of a natural landscape special to you to class. We will use the photos to create 8x12” mosaics by simplifying the landscape and highlighting its most prominent features. Although this is a great beginner class, all experience levels are welcome. We will learn how to score, break, and snip glass down to shape and glue to our substrate. On the last day of class we will finish with grout. No experience required! All Materials/Tools provided. A material fee of $35 must be paid to the instructor on the first night of class.

Students will be working from live (clothed) models to develop and reinforce drawing skills related to the human form. Instructor Ed Higgins will provide one on one coaching and assistance Medium will be charcoal and Conté crayon. You will also need large pads of newsprint (18 x 24), kneaded erasers, and an easel (optional). Students are encouraged to tip the model at the end of each class. *No Class: 7/31.

In this fun 3D mosaic class we will cover an old flower pot, jar, vase or other surface of your choosing with bits of broken china, buttons, pebbles, shells or any other waterproof doodads you like! Tools will be provided for in class use. Please bring your own mosaicable surface (ie. the pot, vase etc.) and any personal items you wish to include. Some glass and ceramics will also be available in class. A material fee to cover glue and grout of $20 must be paid to the instructor on the first night of class.
