Knife and Tool Sharpening

Learn how to sharpen knives, axes, pruners, scissors, and other blade tools. Bring your own dull tools that need to be touched up, or come to practice sharpening on some of our tools and stones. We'll cover the basic theory behind sharpening edge tools, and practice using a variety of sharpening stones. Abstract Studio: Collage & Frottage

In the summer of 2026, the abstract atelier will be exploring collage and frottage. Collage is a process of applying cut or torn paper, text, or imagery to a surface; and frottage is a technique of rubbing media on top of paper which has been placed over an uneven surface. Glass on Glass Landscape Mosaics

Please bring a photo of a natural landscape special to you to class. We will use the photos to create 8x12” mosaics by simplifying the landscape and highlighting its most prominent features. Although this is a great beginner class, all experience levels are welcome. We will learn how to score, break, and snip glass down to shape and glue to our substrate. On the last day of class we will finish with grout. No experience required! All Materials/Tools provided. A material fee of $35 must be paid to the instructor on the first night of class.

Introductory Sashiko Stitching

This is an introductory hands-on class designed to learn the “ins and outs” of the Japanese running stitch technique called Sashiko. We’ll discuss the history of this beautiful and utilitarian stitching; types of fabrics, threads & needles; learn basic traditional patterns and how to transfer them, and use some of the tools that help make this a mindful and enjoyable pastime. We’ll create a small sampler of stitches and patterns, which can then be made into a potholder, a small quilt. Fabric, thread and tools are supplied, along with many handouts that will help you continue your journey long after class is over. *A materials fee of $25 is due to the instructor on the first night of class.

Join us for an exciting Lighthouse and Puffin Workshop & Cruise! In the first class (online), we will be going over camera settings like Shutter Speed, ISO, Aperture and Compositions with Lighthouses and Puffins! And how to capture great images of them all! For the second class, we will be meeting in Bar Harbor (Bar Harbor Whale Watch Co) for a beautiful cruise excursion of area lighthouses and puffin nesting colonies. Don't forget your cameras! Then we will be sharing our images in our 3rd and final class (also online). All details will be discussed in the first class. Life Drawing Studio: Summer Edition

Students will be working from live (clothed) models to develop and reinforce drawing skills related to the human form. Instructor Ed Higgins will provide one on one coaching and assistance Medium will be charcoal and Conté crayon. You will also need large pads of newsprint (18 x 24), kneaded erasers, and an easel (optional). Students are encouraged to tip the model at the end of each class. *No Class: 7/31.
